DOING GOOD TOGETHER! WITH THALASSO FOR CLEAN OCEANS

Händlertipps

The sea: the source of all life. It offers us an inexhaustible reservoir of essential vital substances. The skin can also benefit greatly from the vital power of the sea. And that is exactly the guiding principle of our popular Thalasso skin care line.

The name Thalasso is derived from the Greek word thalassa, which literally means 'sea'. Because the products are enriched with valuable ingredients from our oceans such as the highly moisturizing Atlantic algae extract.

However, our oceans are increasingly endangered and overcrowded with plastic and garbage, which has serious effects on the countless marine life. We would therefore like to help protect the oceans and free them from garbage.

For this reason, we will donate € 1 for each product sold from our Thalasso care line to the organization 'One Earth - One Ocean' from 06/08/21 to 12/31/21.

What are ghost nets?

Ghost nets are lost or abandoned fishing nets and linen. They continue to do their job on an ongoing mission, becoming a danger to many marine life. The lordless nets and fishing lines are often made of nylon, polyester or polyethylene.

Ghost nets are estimated to account for about 10 percent of the world’s plastic waste in the oceans. Not only do they represent a death trap for marine mammals, fish, seabirds and molluscs, but over time they decompose into microplastics, plasticizers or impregnating agents.

In addition, toxins are deposited on plastic particles, which have a significant impact on marine ecosystems and can eventually enter the human food chain.

ONE EARTH – ONE OCEAN

One Earth - One Ocean e.V. (oeoo) is an environmental organization based in Munich, which was founded in 2011 by Günther Bonin. Together with a team of experts made up of marine biologists, ship designers and volunteers, they have developed and implemented a concept for “Martitime waste collection”.

The aim is to free bodies of water worldwide from plastic waste, but also from oil and pollutants. One Earth One Ocean has achieved many great projects and has already achieved impressive results. We decided on the fundraising campaign for the project “ghost networks in the Baltic Sea”.

THE PROJECT

The project to locate and recover such ghost nets from the Baltic Sea started in spring 2019. In the Baltic Sea alone, an estimated 10,000 nets and fishing gear are lost every year.

That is why finds are located, marked and recovered by the divers of the SDA. The ship - the so-called "SeeKuh" - serves as the basis for the dives.

Several successful salvage operations have taken place in the Baltic Sea since 2019.
